MOWP 2026 Docs

Project Overview

What we're building, why, and what success looks like

This project is a full rebuild of the Meals on Wheels People website, paired with a visual refresh. It is not a rebrand: MOWP's name, logo, and overall brand identity stay the same.

The refresh focuses on improved readability, layout, hierarchy, accessibility, and overall polish.

For how content, structure, and live pages come together, start with Process & Timeline.

Note

A living document, updated as decisions land. A separate design system covers colors, typography, and components. These docs cover strategy and content.

Priorities

The site is organized around three priorities, in order of business impact:

1. Donations

Increase giving, keep donors on-site, reduce path confusion

2. Volunteers

Make it easier to get involved, reduce friction and clutter

3. Get Meals

Improve clarity for meal recipients and caregivers

The ranking is about where the project spends its effort, not about who matters most. Giving gets the largest share of the build and the content portfolio.

It does not settle the hierarchy on every page. Where a visitor might be arriving in need, help comes first. See Goals & Priorities for what each priority needs to accomplish, and the boundary that protects help-seeking pages.

Mission, vision, and values

These carry over from the legacy site unchanged:

  • Mission: "We enrich the lives of seniors and assist them in maintaining independence by providing nutritious food, human connections, and social support. We also use our expertise and capacity to serve other nutritionally at-risk populations."
  • Vision: "No senior will go hungry or experience social isolation."
  • Values: Integrity, Respect, Inclusion, Creativity, Teamwork

Founded in 1970 by Jean Wade, Martha Shull, and Cay Kreiger. Over 55 years serving the Portland-Vancouver metro area (Multnomah County, Washington County, Clark County).

Tone and feel

The site should feel like MOWP:

  • Warm: genuine care, not performative
  • Trustworthy: credible, transparent, grounded
  • Clear: easy to understand at a glance
  • Approachable: welcoming without being casual or trendy

See Tone & Voice for detailed writing guidelines.
